Orange-peel texture consists of dispersed raised droplets separated by relatively smooth areas, creating a surface resembling citrus skin. Matching requires evaluating both droplet diameter and coverage density because fine orange peel can appear substantially different from a heavier application even when both use the same texture material. Viewing the surface under oblique light helps reveal the height and distribution of the original droplets.
Knockdown begins as a raised spray pattern but is partially flattened with a knockdown knife after the material has developed sufficient body. The resulting surface contains irregular flattened islands with shallow valleys between them.
